What is Uwezo?
Uwezo means ‘capability’ in Kiswahili. Uwezo is a four year initiative that aims to improve competencies in literacy and numeracy among children aged 6-16 years old in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, by using an innovative approach to social change that is citizen driven and accountable to the public.
Why Uwezo?
In recent years there has been enormous growth in primary school education and this has been partially as a consequence of large increases in public budgets for education. However despite higher enrolment rates, education quality has remained low and may have declined.
What is our Goal?
Uwezo's main goal is to contribute, over the next 4 years,  to an improvement of at least 10 percent in literacy and numeracy levels among children aged 5-16 years in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.and Uganda.
